The Foundry was such a huge hit. Everyone loved it. The space was so unique that were able to do some really nice things with it. The people and staff there were so helpful and friendly too. Allison was a huge help the day of the wedding, and the doorman called cars for all of the guests and helped out a lot.

Monica prepared such a unique and tasty menu, not to mention decorating the Foundry beautifully (ALL flowers/arrangements and overall look)!

My family is Puerto Rican and she researched and cooked delicious Puerto Rican style pork as well as steak and chicken. Awesome!
My family has been raving and so have my husband and I since the wedding about how wonderful everything looked and tasted and this was all due to Monica’s amazing talents.
She is seriously gifted!

Francesca made the whole night flow. She made sure me and my husband were stress free! She even drove out to Jersey City the day before the wedding from Long Island to pick up some things from me to make my week easier. Such a big help!
*Our one complaint is she forgot a copy of the seating chart, luckily my husband and I basically remembered where everyone went for the Mezzanine.

Exactly what we wanted. A short, simple, classy ceremony. Very customizable and friendly throughout the process.
*We only wish we had given her a mic, none of the guests in back could hear her. Luckily our videographer said she has it all captured.

Eva shot the pics for our website and they came out exactly how I’d pictured it.
I got the final product a few weeks ago and love it! Her black and whites, her colors everything.
Her style is exactly what we wanted, and I'm very happy with the end result!

Not only did Motoko and her assistant cover the whole event, but they even danced while they were taking video during the dance sessions! Lots of fun.
I found them to be great, for some peoples taste her assistant might have been a bit unprofessional, but I wasn’t looking for that type of coverage. He was a bit too chatty with some of my guests and I often saw him without a video camera in hand.
They are definitely more Indie, which I really loved.
Motoko herself was amazing, really easy to get along with and I always saw her shooting away.
The DVD came out great, she captured alot of great moments. Its how I wanted, sort of documentary with a music video type of touch to it.
One of the best wedding videos I've seen for sure. I've had some great compliments on it.

Dance Class:

My husband can NOT dance and we actually looked good during the wedding dance due to Kerensa. Very patient and made the dance easy to understand, remember, and execute.
She gave us moves for our intro, our first dance, the end of the dance, mother/son dance and the father/daughter dance.

Linus is a small company that gave us great customer service, a nice deal on the 3 suit package (husband and 2 groomsmen), and the European cut was just what we were looking for. Very friendly staff too.

Bridesmaid Dresses:

A bit pricey, but I loved the look of these dresses. One of my bridesmaids though totally didn’t get hers fitted properly so it looked a bit loose in the boobs. I fault her rather than Jenny Yoo.

Favors:
My husband’s Uncle is a pastry chef, so he made us chocolate toffee brittle.

Limo Company:

They came early and hung out until we were ready. Limos were a bit smaller than the promised number (luckily the videographer had her own car to the venue or we might not have fit!).

Gorgeous hotel room! They upgraded us to a suite for our wedding weekend and it was HUGE! We miss the hotel already. The staff had everything we needed from Advil to recommendations for spas and food and were extremely nice and professional.
Really expensive, but it really made us feel special and just loved the location and hotel.

Some girls have had horror stories from Kleinfeld’s, I had my best shopping experience there.
Its totally who you see there that shapes your experience, and Audrey is amazing.
I felt no pressure to buy, and she even told me I'd be better off coming back for the Henry Roth Sample Sale a month later.
When I came back, Henry Roth had decided to close shop, so I got a sample dress on a crazy discount.( More than half off.)

-2nd dress:
Macy’s really cheap.
I’m glad I did this, for the last hour I got to really enjoy myself and dance my butt off.

Makeup:

Finally all was settled and I had Francis booked, the best up style do guy there.
Well a few days before the wedding I get a call from Devachan that Francis was murdered a few days before the wedding!!
Through that incredibly stressful time they came through and Antonio stood in and did an amazing job.
His assistant Jessica was wonderful as well!

Played beautifully during the cocktail hour and the recessional.
*One minus: We had discussed on the phone different song choices for the processional and recessional. I had told him that our father daughter dance was "here Comes the Son" by the Beatles, after he suggested it for the recessional and not to use it.
He had played it in the mix during the cocktail hour, I'm sure no one noticed but me.

Cupcakes:

The location has moved South to the corner of Leroy and Hudson.
We tried TONS of cupcake places. This place had the best cupcakes and delivered the day of the wedding to make it all easier. We still have some cupcakes saved in our fridge, they were so good!
The manager there was extremely nice.

The first time we were looking for rings the staff here took the time to explain so much about rings to us. VERY helpful and knowledgable staff, as well as being friendly. We got great deals on all 3 of our rings, and we always felt like they were being honest with us. They gave us a copy of the engagement ring’s certificate and said, “Shop it around, you won’t beat our price”. We definitely couldn’t even find a price close to it. Great, great business!

The Santa Maria Novella in Florence was the opposite. GREAT staff, but the Piazza the hotel overlooked was under construction so the location wasn’t ideal. The room was huge. EVERY restaurant the staff recommended was great even down to little gelaterias and pizza places they recommended.

Check her out-- she just started a blog on her website with photos that she has taken from recent weddings. She rocks and her rates are incredible, and more reasonable than any other photographer that I've seen posted on IndieBride or researched on my own.

Florist: Floral Heights (Brooklyn Heights).
Charlotte is amazing with floral design. My FH has been buying flowers from this florist for the past 2 years, so I was familiar with her work. She uses a supplier out of Denmark so the quality of her flowers are impressive. Not one floral bouquet that I've ever received has lasted less than 1 week. Price for our total package was $1200.

DJ: Gary Hoffman (DJ gaza). Loved his demo cd's -- I've been listening to them on my Ipod for the past few months. He was very professional and seems like a genuinely nice guy, and came highly recommended from other indie brides.

Hair: Stacey Pitt
Another great find on Indiebride. Stacey has a calming personality. My trial run went really well and she's quite talented.

Make-up: Laura Nadeau
Laura was a lot of fun during our trial. She is a great make-up artist.

Cake: Sugar Sweet Sunshine
We're having cupcakes and using Sugar Sweet Sunshine in the LES. To show around, I tried cupcakes from Sweet Melissa, One Girl Cookie, and Cupcake Cafe, but I liked SSS the best and the owner, Alex is great (telephone #212-995-1960). My dad is making a wooden square cupcake tower (painted white). I can't find one for sale on the web, so we're going to make ours.

Dress and Veil: Bridal Garden
I scored an Ulla Meija sample dress named "Danielle" that is still in stores such as Mark Ingram and Kleinfelds (where it retails for $5400- I paid no where near that price!) I love this dress-- very unique and unlike anything I've ever seen. It was in fantastic condition and has never been worn.

Alterations: Madame Paulette
Madame Paulette. I decided not to have alterations done at the Bridal Garden since I read a few negative posts about alterations they performed. Just as a warning-- Madame Paulette is expensive.

Shoes: One Glass Slipper
Good selection and price range, and had all types of shoes.

Hotel:
Brooklyn Marriott. This hotel has been inconsistent from the get-go. Prices vary depending upon who you speak with and whether you book online versus over the phone($179 vs. $159). However, their rates were the most reasonable ($159/night for weekend rate if booked online), so our guests are staying here. Prices were more expensive on Thursday and depending on whether you booked over the phone, on Sunday, too. As we mentioned, prices varied depending upon how you book the room. This made for a long explanation on our wedding info. website that we created for out-of-town guests.

Misc. decorations:
Ebay. I purchased 120 glass votives with candles for $60 from a vendor called efavormart. This vendor has many items for sale on Ebay including paper lanterns. If you're looking for paper lanters, this vendor is so much cheaper than any other vendor that I researched. Don't waste your money at Pearl River! Ebay is so much cheaper and they're identical since I've done the comparison.

Pier 63
Outdoor pier/park can be rented out for dirt cheap, but they closed as of last spring. Scheduled to reopen spring 2007, but they wouldn't reserve dates until too late for us. $50-60pp for open bar and buffet dinner. Check back to see if the Pier is up and running again.

Riverside Church
They have several different spaces. We looked at the Assembly Hall, which is in a basement room. Would be great for a winter wedding but a little stuffy for any other season. $3000.

New York City Fire Museum
I loved this venue and wanted to use it, but fiancée thought it looked a little high-school gymnasium-ish. $3300 for a Saturday night, and you get the run of the whole museum, which is three floors.

Gary's Lofts
Fiancee loved this venue. Gary has several different loft spaces, we looked at the penthouse on 36th Street. It's quirky and fun, with lots of antique furniture that you can choose to use or not. $4000 for any night of the week. The 10th floor space in the same building is really beautiful too. It would be an extra $2000. You can use any caterer you want.

Manhattan Penthouse
You must use their caterers, and they sound very flexible for winter dates.
Saturday night venue fee is $4500 + 115-145pp plus tax and gratuity Sunday afternoon venue fee $2700 + 95-125pp plus tax and gratuity Saturday afternoon venue fee $1900 + 85-115pp plus tax and gratuity All the above prices included open bar.

Staten Island Botanical Garden
The garden itself rents for $3000, and includes a small tented area in case of rain. Music has to finish by 11:30pm. You must use their caterer, Alicia Reinish 718-720-9737 or www.cateredword.com. I found her prices insane and she was completely unwilling to negotiate. She wouldn't to a cocktail reception with heavy H.D. within my budget of $14,000.

Hotel Wales
You can rent out their rooftop deck and a penthouse suite for $3000. The kitchen is very small, so it would be a catering challenge.

Housing Works Café and Bookstore
All proceeds benefit Housing Works, a charity helping homeless AIDS victims. Catering costs would have been about $11,000 for 120 people, including food, open bar, rentals, service, not including taxes and gratuity. I can't remember the exact cost of space rental because it varied depending on if they had to close the bookstore for your event. I think we estimated that for 5 hours on a Saturday night it would have cost about $5500. I didn't try to negotiate, but there may have been some room there.

26 + Helen Mills Theater
Our room rental rate for the event space is $3,900 (up to 11 hours), excluding December. Incidentals are as follows: security guard: $200, restroom attendant: $175 and cleaning: $250 - $350. Our theater is $2,500. If you wish to use our A/V equipment in the event space, our sound system is $250, plus the cost of an A/V technician and other items/services. Our projection system is $750. The rental rate for the theater includes our A/V equipment. Liquor prices, for up to five hours, are as follows: $20/person for wine + beer, $25/person for premium, $32.50/person for ultra-premium, plus staff and our 20 percent administration/fee. Champagne is an extra $3/person. NYS sales tax of 8.375 percent applies to all. You are welcome to work with the caterer of your choice. However, if you don't currently know a caterer, I can recommend many, many great ones.

If we'd done a big wedding we would have used this guy. He went out of his way to help us find an affordable venue. We liked him because he's very artistic, and had lots of ideas for cheaply decorating blank spaces (like lofts) and adding special touches. He verbally estimated that he could do a buffet dinner, open bar, service and rentals for 100 people for $11,000. Actually, I proposed that figure, and afterwards I felt pretty sure he would have done it for less. I only tasted one dessert he made, as we didn't get far enough along in the process to do a tasting, but his food came highly recommended by the contact at the NYC Fire Museum. He does any kind of food you want, not just Creole.

This is what we ended up deciding on. They are doing a family-style dinner for 60 people with open bar for $4000 plus tax and gratuity. They give a 5% discount if you pay cash. The private room holds up to 80 people for dinner, but there is NO room for dancing. It's not glamorous, especially if you go by during the daytime, but at night they have lots of candles lit and it actually looks fairly romantic. They also have the best Italian food I've had outside of Italy and some crazy good pistachio gelato in the summer. It's on 13th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. 212-691-4886.

This past Saturday we had a photo shoot with our wedding photographer Eva Dahl .
We chose the perfect day, my apt gets a crazy amount of sunlight and the weather was beautiful, unlike the Nor Easter we had on Sunday.

The photos taken were of my bridal party, and supposed to look like they were done in a photo booth.
So I set up a tension rod and curtain and we took photos in front of it.
Basically the whole time we tried to act like we were in a confined space.
We also used a bunch of props like a ball and chain and a veil etc.
I plan on using these photos for our wedding website.

From what I saw on Eva's digital camera the photos looked great :)
I should be getting the cd within a week, I can't wait!
Eva is so easy to get along with, I know she'll be great to have around on my wedding day.

Of course I provided snacks and mimosas ;)

Good news- we booked our rehearsal dinner [though I think this would be a great place for a smallish wedding as well they hold up to 40 or 45 (I can't remember) max]- my in laws are excited, we came in way under budget! Five Front Street

Patty was amazing, the dinner is a choice of 3 apps, 3 entrees, passed apps in the garden outside, 2 desserts (one chocolate, one not and a sorbet), 50.00/head plus drinks- AMAZING. Deposit is $250. Drinks can be open tab or 9/per person per hour open bar. Open tab winds up being more affordable actually. We have to start at 5:30 for drinks (5 if it was a Friday) and dinner by 6:30. Out by 9.

Many of you have been asking details of my Day-of Coordinator, and figured here's the perfect place to post it for all to view.

Sidekick events is a little loose with the package but you'll find with most Day-of Coordinators, that its the same deal with what they do.My contract for $2500 is for a coordinator and 1 asst. I believe the owner costs 3500 for the day but she's been previously booked at another event.

Here's what this entails:

- a 12 hr. day (you can decide from a 6, 8 or 12 hr. schedule) - not sure if this effects cost though
- 2 meetings in person (I had 2 meetings before I signed the contract in which I met the owner w/ my FH and another where I met the actual coordinator who will be working with us. Meetings are scheduled at your convienvce but usually include a walk through at your site with all vendors and another meeting with just the SideKick staff to go through all concerns
- Complete Timeline and Contact List for the day
- Personal serivces for the day: includes orchestrating actual setup of event, monitoring flow, breakdown, etc. (this is where you work with them to encompass your own needs)

They also offer more services that are established as a la carte - so you add on as needed and additional costs are given to each. These include:

I was looking for a caterer for a long time, and through a recommendation from a co-worker I found Monica Byrne.

When we met we just clicked. We have similar tastes and styles and sometimes it felt as if we were coming up with the same ideas at different times. :)

We only met once, but it felt like we knew each other longer. I got a really good vibe from that meeting. Plus talking to her via email has been great.

The bonus is that she's also a florist, and she'll be helping cater and decorate the wedding.

So my fiance and I met with Rev. Hilda Gieco on Saturday.
Even though she's the first officiant we have met with, she will end up being the only one because we liked her that much. From the beginning we felt a strong connection with her, and had a really good chat over coffee at Starbucks.
She contributed great ideas, and was receptive to our ideas. It really seems like it's going to be a wonderful, collaborative process in building our dream ceremony.

They assist your event people in setting up the enite ceremony and provide a crew to cleanup after you event.

I think the best thing about A.O. is the Lighting Designer who comes with the site fee. You worked directly with him to create a lighting scheme for your entire event -- allowing you to change the entire look of the space (if you wanted to).

The Prince George Ballroom is located at 15 East 27th Street in a landmark building that was originally built as a luxury hotel in 1904 and later became a welfare hotel. In the 1990s, it was purchased and rehabilitated by the not-for-profit Common Ground and the building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Ballroom was just restored over the past two years and has only recently been open for events. Common Ground was a Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award this year from the New York Landmarks Conservancy for their work in restoring the space.

We plan to have our guests enter through the World Monuments Fund Gallery and hold the ceremony in the ballroom. The cocktail hour will be held in both the Gallery and the Ladies Tea Room and the reception will be back in the Ballroom.

Capacity: 299 seated

Fees: The cost of the space is a $7,500 site fee - which is applied to Common Ground's programs to combat homelessness (unfortunately, the organization is structured in such a way that you can't take a deduction for the site fee, but it does go to a good cause).

Amenities: There is a full kitchen, but everything else needs to be brought in. You have the entire site (including the Gallery, Ballroom and Tea Room) from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. and are not charged any additional fees for bringing rentals in early or having them picked up late. There is a conference room that can be used as a bridal suite upstairs. The venue also provides security guards and the events manager (Rachel - who I pray does not quit before my wedding because she is that awesome) will be there as well and will coordinate your vendors.

What do you do when you're PMSing and your fiance is sick?

I really, really hope I don't end up treating people they way that some of these brides do. Some of those planners are really intense--also they are saints for handling the brides the way they do.
Knowing me and the way I stress out, I took preventive measures to keep myself as sane as possible for my wedding--we hired a day of wedding planner.

The new Burgers and Cupcakes which was Mitchell London, but is still owned by Mitchell London with a new name.

There service as Mitchell London was always horrible, for the 3 years I've known them.
So I don't expect it’s gotten much better in recent months.

So I stopped by on my way back from lunch, since I saw there was no one on line at all, and picked up 2 cupcakes. Actually I found the chocolate cake to be moist and really good. I asked for a vanilla cupcake, but in reality it had blueberries in it. The icing was sweet, but not as sweet as Magnolia. And I'm not a Magnolia fan, so this was good. But the blueberry flavor I just wasn't in the mood for, but my co-worker ate the other half and loved it.

Give it a shot for yourself, but if you see it’s crowded there, avoid at all costs.

This review from Gothamist found the chocolate cake to be dry.

I made a little trip to Crate and Barrel & Pottery Barn today with a friend. I saved my fiance the torture.
So in person things looked completely different that they do online.
Originally online I totally loved the Quartet Dinnerware set at C&B--in person not so much.

So I had liked the Madison Tea mug, but preferred the Maison set's plates.

Which irked me considerably, since everything looks great online--shot professionally and perfectly lit.

I'm totally digging these SPRINGWOOD MINGLING PLATE from Pottery Barn.
Though I read on Apartment Therapy they once had them at Crate and Barrel.
I plan on registering with C&B, but this makes me want to register at PB too.
I wish they came in a variety of colors and woods.
They would be great for a little party to use new wine glasses received from your wedding registry ;)

So I've been thinking about how much, and what, I should register for. I'm afraid if I don't register for enough things, that I'll end up either not getting anything or stuff I don't necessarily need or want.

By the time me and my fiance get married, we'll be together almost 10 years, and we'll have been in this apartment for 5. Maybe it seems selfish, but i don't want to end up with things stored in the tiny closet space I have that I don't need.

Basically, the only thing we need is money towards buying our first apartment, or our first home. We have dishware, towels, and all of the things that are in registries. Do you think it would be rude to start a contribution fund for our first house? It would be the thing that would help us most in starting our new life together.

There are many registries out there, for money, honeymoons etc.

Invites : Lion in the Sun

We are soon to visit Lion in the Sun for our invites- a few brides have told me they are a great, local place with good service. No appointments are taken which might be a problem, but they are willing to meet with you after store hours if your schedule so demands. I'll post how it goes when i visit.

Rings : MCRBride’s Engagement Ring

I’m very finicky and luckily my fiancé knew that.
So instead of giving me an engagement ring, when he proposed, he gave me a Tiffany Rainbow Drop pendant instead—and said I’d be able to choose my ring.
The pendant actually mimicked the first gift he ever got me, a blue crystal necklace. This was a very nice upgrade.

We got this ring from ID Jewelry in the Diamond District.
They have a small booth, and are family owned business.
Tammy fully educated us on diamonds; we were there for a good hour. She told us what to look for, even if we chose not to go with them.
Super nice, honest and upfront.
We took their GIA certificate for the princess cut we saw there, and
took it with us everywhere we went looking for a better price.
About 2 months later, no once could beat them!

I.D. had sold "that" princess diamond we had originally seen, but had one that
was practically the same.

The band I designed (influenced by JEFF COOPER), and they made it for me.

A really great, deal and obviously I highly recommend them!
The site isn't that great, neither is the booth they are located.
But the service is top notch.
I love my ring, and at times just like to look at it sparkle.

Places : The Foundry--MCRBrides location

After much searching on message boards, online, word of mouth etc, my fiancé and I finally came to choose the 1st place I had I looked at when thinking of wedding venues.
The Foundry

A co-worker of mine had gotten married there about a year or so ago, so when I got engaged, a lot of people at my job had high praise for it, and recommended it.
I loved it immediately but thought it would be way too expensive.
Jump ahead around 6 months later, and the price of a NYC wedding
started to sink in, the Foundry didn't so expensive to me anymore.

It’s just so funny to me, that we ended going with literally the 1st place I looked at.

So anyways our date is September 29th, 2007 :) And currently we are narrowing down between 2 caterers.
I'll post about that when we make the final decision.

I finally have a photographer! We decided on Eva Dahl
, I really like her color photos.
While looking through her photo books, I saw she did the photos for Paul Soter of Super Troopers seen here below, which I also found on her site.

Also she did a wedding where Jessalyn Gilsig and Rainn Wilson were guests. Nice to see Dwight out having a good time ;)
